Fundamentals: Scenework focuses on the core of improvised theatre, the two-person scene. This course will center on creating scenes with a satisfying beginning, middle and end that will delight audiences. From establishing a strong base reality to playing with status, this class is great for new students or returning veterans looking to sharpen their skills.

This four-night class will guide students through the basics of performing improvisational theatre. Students will learn the foundations of improv and learn to perform this collaborative art with a supportive ensemble. The course will dive into “Yes, and…”, celebrating failure, making your partner look good, developing relationships in scenes, playing to the top of their intelligence and striving for truth in comedy.

In this humorous, hands-on, high energy workshop, renowned entertainer Sean Fagan (Seano) teaches children and young adults circus skills!
A former Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus clown with over 10 years experience in the field, Seano has worked with the Walt Disney Organization, Nickelodeon JR. Television, and the national and international theatrical tours of Scholastic’s Magic School Bus Live. He has performed at the International Children’s Arts Festival in Singapore, on the streets in Holland, and at the Golden Week Family Festival in Liuzhou, China.
The Circus School environment is one of process, teamwork, and self expression. Whether you’re a curious circus fan wondering “how do they do that?” a young adult looking for guidance into the craft, or a performer of of any kind, Circus School will expand your bag of tricks on and off stage.

Music is a powerful addition to your improv toolbox. There’s nothing more magical than a well-delivered song made up on the spot. We’re getting chills just thinking about it!

Improvisors are not only the actors on stage, but the writers and the directors, too. This course focuses on what makes a good story, and gives you the skills necessary to create one on your feet, out loud, in front of an audience. Phew! That sounds like a lot, so we’d better get started!

Too often performers become “talking heads” onstage, frozen in place. We want scenes that come alive before our eyes! Learn to bring physicality to your work on stage.
From a musty local dive bar filled with regulars to a gleaming space station orbiting an alien world, improvisers must be ready to create the “where” of their scenes from thin air. In this Fundamentals course, students will focus on the skills and techniques necessary to transform a stage and a couple of chairs into any environment their scene needs. From studies in object work, finding inspiration in your space work, to becoming the scenery yourself, this class will teach you how to bring your scenes to life.

Teacher, surgeon, kid detective, cyborg, ostrich, Greek god… How do improvisors bring such a wide range of interesting characters to the stage? You’ll learn how!
Improvisors never know what roles they need to play until they’re playing them. In this Fundamentals class, you will learn techniques to create full, complex characters and bring them to life in the moment. Scripted actors will find this course a benefit to their work as well.
Price: $100
Ages 10 - 17, 6 weeks, with a performance. Sundays: 1:00 - 2:45 PM. Fall: October 2, 16, 23, 30, November 6. Performance date: November 13.
