Improv Fundamentals: Scenework
The lights come up, the lights go down. What happens in between is the scene. How do you make that brief time riveting for your audience? We've got a few ideas!
Scenework focuses on the core of improvised theatre, the two-person scene. This course will center on creating scenes with a satisfying beginning, middle, and end that will delight audiences. From establishing a strong base reality at the top of your scenes to successfully playing with status, this class is great for new students or returning veterans looking to sharpen their performance skills.
Our class is designed to give improvisers the tools to create engaging scenes that don't have to rely on gags or hoop game formats to succeed. We really dive into that other important improv phrase, "Make your partner look good" with exercises designed to help you do just that.
The Mopco Improv Fundamentals Wheel
Each of the four classes in the Fundamentals Wheel offers work on the core tenets of improv through a unique lens. The four classes are Environment, Character, Narrative, and Scene. These reflect basic skill areas that good improv demands, all using the same core principles. You can jump into the wheel at any point and you don't need to take them in any particular order.
Each Improv Fundamentals and Musical Improv 6-Week course each has a unique performance element that showcases the skills you focused on during the class. You'll be able to show off to your friends and family everything you've learned. The performance is not mandatory but we bet you'll want to take part. Participation is dependant on consistent attendance. The show is free for friends and family to attend. Students will receive a free ticket to the show following their performance and access to discounted tickets for their friends and family to purchase should they want to stay after the student showcase.
