Musical Improv Essentials
2-Week Class on Core Improvised Song Skills
Class Dates: Saturdays on Feb 2nd and 9th @ 10:30 am
Find your voice and the confidence to use it in songs created off the top of your head!
Musical Improv Essentials is a two-week, introductory class to teach you all the basics of the art of making music in the moment. Our Musical Director, Mark S. Merrit will take you step by step as you learn how to improvise songs. You'll learn the fundamental tools for spontaneous singing so that you can immediately have a blast with improvised song! A great class for those looking to spark their creativity or for improvisers looking to expand their range of skills!
There's no need to "be funny" or "clever" or be able to "sing good". This class will show you that everyone can improvise and sing! If you can belt out Happy Birthday at the office birthday party, you are overqualified. Whether you want to do improvisation on the stage or more spontaneous off-stage or just have fun trying something new, this class is a great place to start your journey!
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
18. We offer youth classes for younger improvisers! Check out our mopco.org/classes to find a class.
How active are these classes?
Our classes involve a good amount of physical activity - you should feel comfortable being on your feet for at least an hour. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about accommodations for ability.
Are there any prerequisites to this class?
Not at all! This is a great place to start. If you're looking to really dive into improv, we recommend starting here before committing to one of our 6-week fundamentals classes. If just looking to try it out with a lower commitment, our Improv 101 or our monthly Monday Night Drop-In or Improv Jams. A jam is an especially great way to dip your toe in the water in a low stress, celebratory environment.
I'd love to get more involved at the Mopco Improv Theatre. How can I do that?
As we grow, Mopco is focused on creating more opportunities for our students to become part of our little community. Currently, we offer a volunteer program that offers students the ability to earn credit toward seeing shows or reducing their class enrollment fees. Help in the cafe, check tickets and catch a free show to boot! For more info, shoot us an email at email@example.com.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Street parking is available on Union and N Jay street by our Theatre. Parking is available in the lot behind Perreca's as well as other public lots within a short walk of the theatre. The lot directly across from us is reserved for the Rossi & Ditorro Funeral Home and is not always available for parking. DO NOTpark in the lot by JoJo’s Auto Service or you will be towed. Find out more and see a detailed map of parking options available around us here
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
