Advanced Storytelling Workshop with Micaela Blei, Ph.D.

  • The Mopco Improv Theatre 10 N Jay Street Schenectady United States (map)

Do you tell stories onstage? After an intro workshop with Micaela, would you like to go even further? Join Micaela Blei, PhD, for this fun and rigorous advanced storytelling workshop.

Drawing on her experience as an award-winning storyteller, seasoned educator and longtime storytelling coach, Micaela will help take your storytelling to the next level. You’ll bring a story-in-progress (from "just an idea” to “I’ve told it to a crowd") and work with Micaela to find the most effective story shape for your story, hone your details for maximum effect, or adjust your performance style.  The workshop is strictly limited to 8 students, ensuring that everyone will have “time on the mic” to workshop a story. Whatever challenge you’re bringing, we’ll work on it together!

Whether you’re trying out a new story idea or fine-tuning a story in your repertoire, Advanced Storytelling is an opportunity to go deep into story craft with a group of likeminded storytellers, to feel more confident about the story you’re telling and to gain invaluable craft tools for your future stories.

Anyone who has taken Micaela’s intro workshop is eligible for Advanced Storytelling. If you didn’t take an intro with Micaela, admission is at the discretion of the instructor.

To qualify for this course, attendees must:

a.) Have taken the introductory storytelling course offered by Micaela in June of 2019

b.)  Receive approval at the discretion of the instructor based on prior storytelling experience. Email for consideration.

What people are saying about Micaela’s teaching:

Micaela's instincts for narrative are truly special - she not only knows what the story needs, she knows what the storyteller needs to tell the story.

-Sam Dingman, Moth GrandSLAM winner, Creator and Host, Family Ghosts

There is magic at play in the workshop. Micaela has an ability to concisely talk about stories, and their construction, with a kind of sleight of hand. She leads you to the sudden realization: by telling a story concisely you are tapping into much larger universal truths.

-Michael D., storytelling workshop participant

After taking a one-day workshop with Micaela and learning her framework and approach, I wanted to work with her one-on-one. I found Micaela’s coaching approach to be very encouraging and effective. Her warmth, humor and professionalism allowed me to trust her and be vulnerable in doing the work. I recommend her highly and give her the most-starred review on any scale!

-Su C., workshop participant and private coaching student
