Performance Improv Class
Sundays, 3:30-5:30 PM, Oct. 20-Dec. 8
An audience changes everything.
Say you’ve been doing classes, doing the jam, working out with a group of friends, and finally, you are going to be in an improv show! But on the big night, nothing feels right. Suddenly people in the cast are gagging, the offers are weak, and the audience seems to be transforming into a hostile mass of pure judgement sitting out there in the dark. This isn’t the way you thought it would be! It isn’t the way it should be, either.
This class is all about overcoming the anxiety that hampers great improv performance, by learning and mastering proven techniques to make your partner—and yourself—look good up there. Build trust and ensemble feeling with the cast. Learn to deal with and overcome the pressure to gag, to wimp, to criticize choices.
This class is not for the faint of heart. Individual feedback will be given to help each student overcome their bad habits or gaps in technique.Class members will perform in “Five For All” show at the Mopco on Dec. 12 at 7:30.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
18. We offer youth classes for younger improvisers! Check out our mopco.org/classes to find a class.
How active are these classes?
Our classes involve a good amount of physical activity - you should feel comfortable being on your feet for at least an hour. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about accommodations for ability.
Are there any prerequisites to this class?
We recommend students have some basic knowledge of improv before taking one of our fundamentals classes. If the student does not have any improv experience we would recommend taking our Improv 101 or Improv Essentials classes. For those just looking to try it out with a lower commitment, our Monthly Improv Jams are another great way to dip your toe in the water in a low stress, celebratory environment.
I'd love to get more involved at the Mopco Improv Theatre. How can I do that?
As we grow, Mopco is focused on creating more opportunities for our students to become part of our little community. Currently, we offer a volunteer program that offers students the ability to earn credit toward seeing shows or reducing their class enrollment fees. Help in the cafe, check tickets and catch a free show to boot! For more info, shoot us an email at email@example.com.
What is your policy on absences from class?
After two absences, students will not be able to participate in the performance at the end of the class.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Street parking is available on Union and N Jay street by our Theatre. Parking is available in the lot behind Perreca's as well as other public lots within a short walk of the theatre. The lot directly across from us is reserved for the Rossi & Ditorro Funeral Home and is not always available for parking. DO NOTpark in the lot by JoJo’s Auto Service or you will be towed.
