STORYTELLING with Micaela Blei, PhD

STORYTELLING with Micaela Blei, PhD

Saturday, June 29th
12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join Micaela for an unforgettable afternoon of storytelling! Whether it's a story for a slam, a wedding toast, a mission statement or the beginnings of a memoir— Micaela can help you find your story’s focus, and the confidence to captivate your audience.

In this three-hour introductory workshop, you'll work with 2-time Moth GrandSLAM winner (and former Moth Director of Education) Micaela Blei, Ph.D., to find the stories that YOU want to tell (or find the meaning in the story you've brought), learn secrets for telling riveting stories; and work with form, not formula. You’ll also get to know other storytellers in your workshop in brand new ways… nothing connects us like our stories.

Expect to have some feelings and laugh a lot. You'll leave with strategies to go even further in your storytelling work, and the beginnings of a story to share-- whether onstage or with your family and friends!

This workshop is great for everyone from absolute beginners who want to build confidence and find their stories, to storytelling professionals who want new tools for their toolbox.

See some of Micaela’s stories and find out more about her at micaelablei.com.

What students say about Micaela’s stories and workshops:

"There is a kind of magic at play in Micaela's workshops. She has an ability to concisely talk about stories, and their construction, with a kind of sleight of hand... Before you realize what has happened, you have spent a great deal of time developing characters and honing the arc of a story.  She is able to lead you towards those elements that can anchor a story in time and place and the sudden realization that by telling a story concisely you are tapping into much larger universal truths.

-Michael D.  (Living Room Workshop with Micaela Blei)

"I was surprised how easy it was to identify stories worth sharing in my life…. I would highly recommend Micaela's workshop to anyone looking to tell a personal story, gain public speaking confidence, or simply to have a wonderful afternoon.”

-Michelle M. (Living Room Workshop with Micaela Blei)

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
18. We offer youth classes for younger improvisers! Check out our mopco.org/classes to find a class.

I’m feeling nervous about coming to my class. Should I still come?

Yes! Introverts and extroverts alike get nervous before their first class. The good news is everyone in the class is here to grow and celebrate creativity. We work to create a trusting and safe environment for our students to explore improvisation. You don’t need any special skills to do improv and we work to make that clear right at the top of class with games and exercises that show you how creative you already are. Your teacher won’t put you on the spot or make you doing anything before you’re ready.

How active are these classes?

Our classes involve a good amount of physical activity - you should feel comfortable being on your feet for at least an hour. Please email hey@mopco.org with any questions about accommodations for ability.

What is your policy on absences from class?

After two absences, students will not be able to participate in the performance at the end of the class.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Street parking is available on Union and N Jay street by our Theatre. Parking is available in the lot behind Pereca's as well as other public lots within a short walk of the theatre. The lot directly across from us is reserved for the Rossi & Ditorro Funeral Home and is not always available for parking. DO NOT park in the lot by JoJo’s Auto Service or you will be towed. Find our more and see a detailed map of parking options available around us here

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Contact us at hey@mopco.org for general inquiries or call us at (518) 577-6726

What's the refund policy?

Cancellations for a full refund must be made 7 days or more prior to the first class. Less than 7 days: Your place in the class is non-refundable unless we can get someone to fill your spot.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Please make sure we know who to expect in class.
