Help Wanted: Assistant to the Artistic Director
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in managing a small (60 seat)performing arts venue. While candidates with proven experience/existing skill sets are preferred, a strong desire, willingness, and ability to learn is essential. Ideally, the chosen candidate will have a proven track record in stage management or other high stress position that requires great people, time management, and project management skills.
Provide hands-on assistance to AD in all aspects of running The Mopco, a small black box improv theater in Schenectady NY.
There is some management or supervision of part time employees/volunteers, but
The bulk of time will be spent in hands-on work. A willingness to get one’s hands dirty is essential.
Job will also include some admin work for Koppett, our organizational development consultancy.
35 hour week, 401K, Medical Insurance.
Salary range mid thirties
Areas of responsibility include
Work with AD and part time/volunteer staff:
Front Of House
The theater has a small snack bar/cafe. Inventory, setup/ prep, cleanup, and everything in between, including box office.
Keep front of house, including small snack bar/cafe, running smoothly
Manage volunteers
Engage customers: great customer service/relationship skills and the ability to see/correct problem details quickly in a high-pressure setting are critical.
Theater tech/stage management
Assist Artistic director in maintenance– assure that the theater is clean and presentable.
Work with AD to assure that qualified people are assigned to give time calls pre-show, operate light board, video cams and switcher during shows.
Instruct volunteers in their various jobs.
Program Development/Administration
Work with the AD to:
Build private shows and school workshop business
Develop theater rental business
Recognize potential clients for Koppett and refer /follow up with leads generated from shows and classes important.
Marketing
Help with aspects of theater marketing: regular schedule updates, strategic problem solving, and graphic/creative. Marketing experience is very helpful.
Keep website and mailing list up to date, manage SEO, post shows/classes and programs on Eventbrite, check accuracy of all listings
Maintain listings on community calendars
Work with Artistic Director to create/manage eblasts.
Collaborate with staff, volunteers to build social media presence.
Identify and attract target audiences
Assist in building campaigns, eblasts etc. for rentals, classes, and shows.
