Improv Fundamentals 1
5 Wednesdays, 7-9 PM, June 11th - July 9th; Thursday July 17th, final class and showcase rehearsal
Showcase performance at 7 PM on July 19th
Support your partner. Listen. Blurt! Weave a fresh, engaging story out of thin air. Is improv comedy? Sometimes, sure. But more importantly, it’s connection.
For actors, writers, performers, and folks who have never performed.
Each Fundamentals class wraps up with a fun and supportive 20-25 minute Showcase performance, held just before the main Mopco show on the Saturday after your class ends. The showcase is a fantastic way to put your new improv skills into action in front of a welcoming audience. And who’s in that audience? Mopco members are usually there, but the rest is up to you! Invite your family, your friends—even your accountant! The showcase is free, and as a bonus, you get to attend the 8 PM Mopco show for free. Plus, your guests can enjoy the 8 PM show at half price. Now that’s a deal worth celebrating!
Prerequisite: Improv 101 or equivalent (talk to us if you aren’t sure.)
-
Improv Fundamentals 2
Sundays, 7-9 PM, June 15th - July 27th
Showcase performance, August 2nd at 7 PM
Continue the journey. Work with your partner to find the game. Find the characters, relationships, and stories that make great improvised scenes happen. Get out of your head and into the where!

Thursday Night, Level 3 Class - Speed!
Thursday, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM June 19th
Most folks think improv is to be loud, fast, and funny, so they rush during scenes. While it’s great to blurt, to turn down the censor, and go fast, varied speed is often the key to great work with your partner. Learn to slow things down and let a moment develop. This one night class will help you add the awareness of speed to your toolkit.
Notes about this class/series:
“I want to do the advanced stuff…” The basics ARE the advanced stuff. Our best advice is to take Fundamentals 1 and 2 more than once. For one thing, no two class sessions are the same, and for another, classes are as much about practice as they are instruction. Repeating 101, Fundamentals 1 or Fundamentals 2 offers you the chance to cover similar ground with different partners. You can apply what you’ve learned the first time around and do even more to build your improv strengths.Prerequisite: Fundamentals 1 and 2 or equivalent with another theatre. Ask instructor if you aren’t sure: hey@mopco.org

Thursday Night, Level 3 Class - Where and Illusion
Thursday, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM June 26th
The bare stage can be a where that is as much a character as the actors. Doing great where work requires practice: but what, exactly, should you practice?
Bring all of your senses and your willingness to both work and have fun.

Thursday Night, Level 3 Class - What in the World?
Thursday, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM July 3rd
When we improvise we step into another dimension. What's different about that world? This class will combine verbal and physical ways to explore a new world with your partner. This becomes hugely important as you get into long form work, but even in short form games and scenes, finding the world together heightens everything.
