    Level 3 Class: Status

    Thursday, September 11, 6:30-9:00 PM

    Instructor: Mopco Co-Director Kat Koppett

Status Play: Using Status Awareness to Elevate Your Improv

Want to make your scenes more dynamic and layered? Struggling with steamrolling or getting steamrolled onstage? Curious how subtle power shifts can add depth, surprise, and hilarity to your work?

Understanding and playing with status—the unspoken signals of authority, vulnerability, and influence—is a powerful tool for improvisers. Status awareness can unlock new character choices, heighten emotional stakes, improve ensemble chemistry, and make scenes feel real, grounded, and alive.

    In this workshop, we will:

Learn the non-verbal vocabulary of status and how it shows up in improvised performance

Explore your go-to status behaviors and how they shape your stage presence

Discover how intentional status shifts can build relationships and narrative tension

Practice status play to create compelling characters, hilarious power dynamics, and unexpected turns

Whether you're a high-status king looking to fall or a low-status sidekick ready to rise, this session will give you tools to tune into status signals, play with them consciously, and use them to bring your scenes to life.

Level 3 Class: The One Next Thing

    Thursday, September 18, 6:30-9:00 PM

    Instructor: Mopco Co-Director Kat Koppett

The Next One Thing: Building Great Scenes One Move at a Time

Improv works best when we keep it simple.

One moment. One offer. One next thing.

In this fun, fast-paced class, we’ll practice the real magic behind “Yes, And”—not just agreeing, but building together.

No need to be clever or have it all figured out. Just show up, listen, and respond with the next one thing.

Even if you had five great ideas swirling in your head.

Even if you thought the scene was going somewhere else.

Even if your partner’s offer surprised you.

You’ve got everything you need to move the scene forward—one clear, generous choice at a time.

Come ready to laugh, connect, and strengthen your improviser’s muscle for trust, presence, and collaboration.

    Improv Fundamentals 1

    Wednesdays, 7-9 PM, September 17th - October 22nd

Showcase performance October 24th 7:00 PM

The fundamentals of improv are deceptively simple. You can learn them in a few hours. (But we warn you, it can take a lifetime to master them.) Improv is a practice that you can engage in onstage and off.

Support your partner. Listen. Blurt! Weave a fresh, engaging story out of thin air. Is improv comedy? Sometimes, sure. But more importantly, it’s connection.

For actors, writers, performers, and folks who have never performed.

Each Fundamentals class wraps up with a fun and supportive 20-25 minute Showcase performance, held just before the main Mopco show on the Friday after your class ends. The showcase is a fantastic way to put your new improv skills into action in front of a welcoming audience. And who’s in that audience? Mopco members are usually there, but the rest is up to you! Invite your family, your friends—even your accountant! The showcase is free, and as a bonus, you get to attend the 8 PM Mopco show for free. Plus, your guests can enjoy the 8 PM show at half price. Now that’s a deal worth celebrating!

Prerequisite: Improv 101 or equivalent (talk to us if you aren’t sure.)
